Trowbridge - Roger Hamlin’s Class:
Roger reported on the class he is teaching this semester entitled “Real Estate Development Process” and said they have accepted the Trowbridge Corridor matters a subject for learning. The class is oversubscribed with students, so he has formed three teams of 10 students and given each of them a pretend 10 million dollars to work with. Liz and Brendan will attend one of their Monday night classes and the students will attend the Brainstorming session the RCCA plans to host on the 28th of January.
CRC
Marcia XXX reported that Megan and Rachael are with us again this year and are eager for reciprocal location get-togethers of student and community groups. Details of upcoming events are being worked on and will be reported to us when ready.
Permit Parking
Todd Sneatham contacted Joanne, and she and Roger and Bill will meet with Todd to continue the process of getting the permit system in place.
Treasurer’s Report
Kathy Jacobs reported that we currently have $1,158 in the account, $790 of which is from the sale of the neighborhood history books and DVDs. The RCCA has acknowledged the donation of the funds and must decide an appropriate expenditure to be approved by Janet Ronk. Kathy Jacobs presented some preliminary information and specifications regarding neighborhood entrance signs for the Flowerpot and will continue her research and report back to the Board.
UV Walkway
There was discussion regarding the process by which the walkway from the UV back lot through to Larkspur was permanently closed. The agreement that was reached prior to this event was the formation of a committee and the scheduling of a meeting to discuss options. The unilateral actions taken by the University seemed to have mad the committee and the meeting moot. It was decided to move on to current and future projects rather than to spend time analyzing this one.
Troopers Property Reuse
There was a great deal of discussion regarding the possible future uses of the State Police Headquarters Property. Board members talked about how best to approach the university to express preferences for residential development appropriate to land use on the adjacent lots on the street. It was suggested that any discussions should at least include the Campus Parking and Planning people and the MSU Budget people. Some board members proposed bringing photos or drawings of developments successful done elsewhere to show the University what they might consider. Others thought approaching MSU together with City of
Housing Commission
It was announced that there are currently three openings on the East Lansing Housing Commission. Board members are encouraged to think of candidate who might have an interest in applying for one.
Board Concerns
Discussion of additional topic included the planning of the yearly pot-luck meeting, the acquisition of coffee making and storing equipment, the negative impact of large Breslin Center and stadium events on Trowbridge businesses, the worsening of rush hour traffic, and the increased appearance of graffiti under the highway. On the latter topic it was thought that Lansing, who is responsible for that area used to have a more aggressive anti-graffiti approach.
