MINUTES (DRAFT)

Red Cedar Community Association

Thursday, September 10, 2009

7:00 p.m.

 

Present:  Jim Bebermeyer, Brendan Boyle, Jim DeWitt, Bill Hartwig, Kathy Jacobs, Amelia Opubor, Debi Robinson, Liz Schweitzer, Marcia Van Ness, Kristi White, Kate Benington.

Guests: Craig Maser, University Village.

 

Absent: Jeff Friedle, Mark Grebner, Joanne Russell.

 

I.   Agenda: Approved.

 

II. August Minutes: Approved.

 

III. Treasurer’s Report: Total Balance is $1,266.88. Moved and approved to reimburse Treasurer, Kathy Jacobs to be reimbursed for $5.00 spent on aerial map.

 

Kathy Jacobs will contact Janet Ronk about her original plans for the funds donated for the community. Marcia Van Ness could take sign issues to the neighborhood presidents' meeting, specifically Mayor Vic Loomis.

 

IV. Old Business

 

1. Trowbridge—Brendan Boyle reported on continuing Red Cedar involvement with the city and has answered the city's request for recommendations.

 

2. Cherry Lane/Faculty Bricks—Liz Schweitzer reported that MSU recognizes need to house international students. 

 

3. State Police Building and Site—Liz Schweitzer reported that it has been determined that there is contamination on the site, and MSU will not take back the site until it is cleaned up.

 

4. Harrison Road—Bill Hartwig reported that Harrison Road is scheduled to be torn up during the summer of 2010. The concern is how to access neighborhood, especially the churches involved.

 

5. Construction Junction—Marcia Van Ness defined this as MSU’s attempt to bring together construction managers to discuss all construction projects at MSU. She suggested that it would be valuable to RCCA if a member could attend these meetings.

 

6.  FRIB—Marcia Van Ness brought article from the Towne Courier that demonstrates how the City of East Lansing is making a conscientious effort to pursue workers for the FRIB (Facility for Rare Isotope Beams).

 

7.  Red Cedar Housing—Joanne Russell is working on asking someone from the city to discuss code enforcement with the board.

 

V.  New Business:

  1. Archive—Jim Bebermeyer will begin the project by asking all to look into historical items they may have.

 

  1. Yard/Garage Sale—Discussed whether there is interest to bring back neighborhood sale, but idea tabled.

 

Neighborhood Cleanup—Discussed possibility of neighborhood cleanup. Kathy Jacobs expressed concern for muddy conditions at Sever dip. Kathy will also talk to Fred Kletke to see if it is possible to work on pathway that runs through paths leading to the park and school through the woods.

 

  1. Debi Robinson reported that the light at Emerson Park has been repaired.

 

VI. Connections:

 

  1. Interest Groups signup list presented by Marcia Van Ness (See list) with request for reports from each group at each RCCA meeting.

 

  1. Liaisons—It was strongly suggested that RCCA members not express personal opinions as representatives of RCCA.

 

  1. Newsletter—Marcia Van Ness presented rough draft that Liz Schweitzer will revise and resubmit to group.

The next RCCA meeting will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Arbor Forest.
